GenZ optimism
Being young in the 2020s, is there anything good about that? That is, something to be grateful for, in this particular time?
When it comes to the negatives, we already know enough through the media and worldly conversations.
Trying to force myself to find the positive aspects of our time (with the considerable bias of someone living in a large city in Western Europe):
- Instant text and video tools to connect people
- Widespread knowledge of foreign languages, especially English as the lingua franca
- Many faster, digitized processes
- Travelling made easier than ever
- Fast, unlimited access to all human knowledge
- Higher levels of education
- Freedom of movement within the EU
- Increased productivity and automation
- Possibility to connect with likeminded people/projects across the planet
- Unprecedented potential to create and scale a business, if you have the right idea
- Less smoking and pollution (debatable)
- Awareness about environment and climate change
- Wider recognition of human rights
- Access to the music and movies produced in the 90s :)
Hopefully, when our generation takes over as policy makers, we'll learn from the past.
Maybe not. We'll see.
